This year the World Book Day Festival will be celebrated at the Trianon Shopping Park from the 4th to the 7th of May 2017. The World Book and Copyright Day was first celebrated on the 23rd of April 1995 by UNESCO. Since then, this festival has been celebrated in various countries around the world with the purpose of promoting reading habit amongst individuals, to promote book publishing as well as bringing an awareness as to the importance of copyright.
The National Library of Mauritius on its part, has been organising the World Book Day since 2002 across various parts of the country, namely, at the Caudan Waterfront in Port-Louis, at the Mahebourg Waterfront, at the Bagatelle Mall in Moka etc. This year,on this same occasion, the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture, China,has donated a collection of books to the National Library on Monday 24th April 2017. The launching of a China Corner by the Hon. Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Pritivirajsing Roopun took place on this same day.
